In celebration of World Wetlands Day, which falls on February 2nd each year, Wetlands International, in partnership with the Selangor State Forestry Department, organized a mangrove replanting program on February 18th, 2025. This also embodied this year’s theme: “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future.”

The program was held at the Hutan Simpan Banjar Utara (Bagan Pasir), Selangor, with the participation of 35 secondary students from the International Islamic School Malaysia has successfully planted 300 mangrove seedlings; Rhizophora apiculata and Rhizophora mucronata, contributing to the restoration of this crucial habitat.

The program did more than just help restore the mangrove ecosystem—it aimed to instill a deeper awareness of environmental issues among the students. By engaging them in hands-on activities, this program provided a unique opportunity to understand the importance of mangroves in combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, and preventing coastal erosion.

Programs like this are an inspiring reminder of how small actions can lead to lasting change, contributing to a healthier planet for generations to come.
