Reaffirming its dedication to environmental stewardship, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), in strategic partnership with Wetlands International and the Selangor State Forestry Department, successfully organized another mangrove restoration initiative at Hutan Simpan Banjar Utara (Sungai Yu).
The programme mobilized 32 TNB personnel from the Calibration, Metering & AMI Distribution Network Division to participate directly in coastal ecosystem rehabilitation. A total of 500 seedlings comprising Bakau Minyak (Rhizophora apiculata) and Bakau Kurap (Rhizophora mucronata) were introduced into identified degraded zones. These mangrove species feature complex stilt root architectures essential for shoreline stabilization, erosion mitigation, and providing a safe sanctuary for diverse marine and terrestrial wildlife.
In addition to revitalising the species diversity of mangroves, the initiative educated participants on optimal planting methods designed to maximize long-term seedling survival. The activity highlights TNB’s broader CSR objective of deploying nature-based solutions to strengthen the climate resilience of Malaysia’s natural wetlands.
