In line with its core vision, “Serving the Earth,” Oleon (a brand of Avril) partnered with Wetlands International and the Selangor State Forestry Department for a CSR mangrove restoration effort themed “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage”. The initiative embraced the local forestry message, “Sayangi Hutan Paya Bakau,” highlighting a shared pledge to protect vulnerable coastal ecosystems.
The initiative brought together 28 dedicated volunteers from Oleon on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Hutan Simpan Banjar Utara (Sungai Yu). The team successfully planted 500 saplings at the identified degraded mangrove area assessed prior to this planting program, focusing on key species: Bakau Minyak (Rhizophora apiculata) and Bakau Kurap (Rhizophora mucronata). Both species feature complex root systems that effectively stabilize shoreline soil and provide shelter for local wildlife.
In addition to hands-on work, participants gained valuable insights into proper planting techniques designed to sustain high growth rates, as well as a broader understanding of the mangrove ecosystem as a whole during the educational session, which covered the critical ecological services mangroves provide—from acting as natural coastal defenders and marine nurseries to functioning as major carbon sinks. This event reinforces Oleon’s dedication to long-term environmental stewardship, honoring natural heritage, and building climate resilience across Malaysia’s wetland habitats.
