Bandar Bukit Raja (BBR) is a major township development located in Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. The project is spearheaded by Sime Darby Property, with a vision to transform a large area of previously arable land into a vibrant township. Bandar Bukit Raja (BBR) is designed to be a comprehensive and self-sustaining township, providing a balanced mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas, alongside community facilities and green spaces.

Sime Darby Property has been renowned in mainstreaming sustainability in its development practices. The holistic township has integrated green building standards, energy-efficient designs, and extensive landscaping to create a pleasant living environment. Apart from that, the township is designed to foster a sense of community with its Wetland Town Park, recreational areas and exclusive green space design, promoting social interaction and cohesion among residents.

One of the most innovative elements within BBR is the Constructed Wetland system, a series of interconnected urban wetlands plays a critical role in:

  • Managing stormwater runoff
  • Reducing flood risks during heavy rainfall
  • Improving water quality through natural filtration
  • Enhancing biodiversity by creating habitats for flora and fauna within the urban setting
  • Providing recreational and educational spaces for the local community

To support the function and long-term sustainability of these wetlands, Wetlands International has been appointed as a specialist technical partner. BBR2 Urban Wetlands Framework was developed, a comprehensive framework outlines:

Maintenance guidelines to support the long-term performance and resilience of the wetland system

The types of urban wetlands identified within the town park

A biodiversity inventory assessment particularly on Odonata, Anura and Ichthyofauna

Water quality measurement at major wetland cells

Urban wetlands sustain life and balance, just as their natural counterparts do
