The Bamboo Wave Screen (Skrin Ombak Telap), an eco-engineered coastal protection structure, has been honored with two prestigious recognitions at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2025, the Gold Award and the Special Award from the Chinese Innovation & Invention Society (CIIS), Taiwan.

Developed and implemented at Tanjung Kepah, Perak, the Bamboo Wave Screen is designed as a nature-based coastal protection solution to reduce wave energy, trap sediments, and create a favorable environment for mangrove regeneration. Constructed using locally sourced bamboo, the structure is sustainable, cost-efficient, and community-friendly, aligning innovation with environmental responsibility.

The project also integrates local community participation in the construction, monitoring, and maintenance, ensuring long-term functionality and fostering community stewardship.

This achievement underscores the potential of the Bamboo Wave Screen as a replicable and scalable solution for coastal resilience. It also aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 15: Life on Land), showcasing that effective coastal protection can go hand in hand with sustainability and local empowerment.
