Demonstrating its strong commitment to environmental sustainability, Tenaga Switchgear (TSG) collaborated with Wetlands International and the Selangor State Forestry Department to lead a vital mangrove planting drive at Hutan Simpan Banjar Utara (Sungai Yu).
To ensure a science-based restoration approach, a pre-planting site assessment was conducted prior to the program in accordance with Wetlands International’s Ecological Mangrove Restoration (EMR) principles. This evaluation verified the site’s biophysical conditions such as tidal hydrology, soil substrate, and natural recruitment potential guaranteeing that species-to-site matching was optimized to avoid planting in unsuitable areas and to ensure long-term seedling survival.
The initiative brought together 50 TSG volunteers on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to actively restore degraded coastal areas. Together, they planted key mangrove species Bakau Minyak (Rhizophora apiculata) and Bakau Kurap (Rhizophora mucronata) known for their complex root systems that stabilize shoreline soil and support local wildlife ecosystems.
Beyond the planting activity, participants gained valuable insights into effective planting methods to ensure high seedling survival rates. This initiative underscores TSG’s commitment to driving long-term environmental stewardship and building climate resilience across Malaysia’s wetland ecosystems.
