On 23 August 2025, the Mangrove Adoption Program was successfully organised at Pusat Riadah Laut, Tanjung Kepah, Perak, with the participation of 50 local community members who proudly became mangrove adopters.

The program was co-organised by UTP and Wetlands International, with strong support from the Manjung District Forest Office. A key highlight of the event was the launching of the Tanjung Kepah Mangrove Nursery, one of the initiatives under the Building with Nature (BwN) Tanjung Kepah Mangrove Action Project.

The day began with a knowledge-sharing session on mangrove species and ecosystems, followed by a hands-on exercise in mangrove seedling propagation at the nursery. A total of 500 seedlings were distributed among the adopters (10 seedlings per adopter). Each seedling was tagged, transferred, and stored in the nursery, where they will be nurtured for two months before being planted along the Tanjung Kepah shoreline.

As part of their adoption responsibility, the community members are required to conduct weekly monitoring and maintenance to ensure the seedlings remain healthy and resilient. This active engagement instils not only awareness but also a sense of ownership and stewardship among the locals in conserving their coastal ecosystems.

Through the Mangrove Adoption Program and the launch of the nursery, the initiative embodies the tagline “Planting Hope, Reaping Sustenance”—a reflection of how small actions today can grow into lasting benefits for people, nature, and livelihoods.
