In conjunction with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, a collaborative mangrove replanting activity was successfully held on 16 August 2025 at Teluk Rhu, Sabak Bernam, Selangor.
The program was jointly organised by Wetlands International, JPKK Kg. Sg. Apong, the Sabak Bernam District and Land Office, and the Pantai Klang District Forest Office. This meaningful effort brought together 70 participants, including students from Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah and members of the neighboring local community.
A total of 500 Rhizophora mangrove seedlings were planted in an area that was once densely populated by mangroves but has since been degraded due to land conversion. This initiative therefore aims to rehabilitate the degraded site, restoring its role as a natural coastal barrier, a nursery ground for fisheries, and a haven for biodiversity.
This initiative not only celebrated the importance of mangroves as vital ecosystems but also strengthened partnerships between government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, and local communities in protecting our coastal heritage.
